Long ago, linen was a textile made from the fibers of the flax plant. According to Wikipedia, linen was known for it's coolness and freshness in hot weather.
Through the years as materials and technology have evolved, so too has the term "linen". Today, the linen term is used in a more broad sense referring to a class of woven and even knitted bed, bath, table and kitchen textiles.
Currently, companies such as ours who rent textile products such as napkins and tablecloths, use a quality of linen designed for commercial use. Taking advantage of new materials and new technology, today's linen products outperform "yesterday's linen" with
- better color retention over a longer period of time,
- amazing stain release properties
- increased absorbency
- durability
And so even though times have changed, today's linen has changed with the times as well. Linen products today deliver a soft feel and sophisticated look for the discriminating diner as well as performance and value for the restaurant owner.
The more things change, the more things stay the same.
