saying that he was going to be a guest on Tech Talk with show host Tom D'Auria and wanted to know if there were any small businesses using Twitter/social media and how. So I sent a quick tweet back mentioning our napkin-folding videos and how we blogged/Tweeted/placed the videos on our webpage. After I found out what radio station he was on, I dialed in and this is what I heard...(you might want to start about halfway through the radio show to hear Shashi)
Thanks @Shashib for proving the point that businesses need to be listening and responding quickly to their customers/potential customers and to help add value to the marketplace.

Some bits and pieces of my visit to the American Marketing Association in Oklahoma City, OK. I had the pleasure of making a presentation to the group, as I mention in the video below...
Groups like the AMA are a great resource for its members. When you get together with other professionals in the same field as you, there is a sharing that takes place and an understanding that you can't get anywhwere else. These organizations help get people connected and stay connected. I can't say enough about the great program these guys have in their AMA-OKC chapter.

This post wraps up United Linen's United Way campaign for the year. We had a great time raising money for United Way and learned a tremendous amount about fund-raising. This marked the first time we used social media tools to help promote our fund-raising efforts and that was a huge learning experience (more on that in a future post).
As Kristin alluded to in the video above, we have added up the money and votes for those employees who participated in our Halloween Costume Contest. Last week our employees dropped off money in a box under the picture of the person they thought had the best costume. Those of you around the world had the opportunity to vote by donating money via the ChipIn widget, placed in the blog's right sidebar, and leave a comment as to the costume you thought was the best.
We tallied up the money and the winner is...
...Cherie Sanders (Christmas Tree). Cherie won an iPod Nano for her creative interpretation of a Christmas tree as her Halloween costume.
Runner up was Dana Henshall, who portrayed a texting-while-driving accident victim.
We raised $62.00 using the ChipIn Widget. The cash collected during the jelly bean guessing contest and costume contest totalled $282.35, making a grand total collected of $344.35 for United Way.
A tip of the hat and a heart-felt "thank you" to all of our employees and to all of you who participated with us in this fun campaign. This just goes to show what can happen when everyone does a little bit...it adds up to making a big difference.
If you have any ideas, suggestions, comments, you would like to make regarding our United Way campaign, we would love to hear from you. Just leave a comment in the Comments section below.

Last week I had the pleasure of speaking on behalf of United Linen on a panel at Jeff Pulver's #140conference - LA. The panel discussion was on how small businesses use Twitter/social media. On the panel were Kim Fenolio (@kfenolio) of America's Best Companies and Neal Rohrbach (@nrohrbach) of iDea Anglers. Kim, Neal and I had never met before this conference, other than over the phone, and we hit it off great. Both Kim and Neal are very knowledgeable when it comes to using social media for small business.
The #140 Characters Conference (Exploring the State of Now) was a 2 day download from people of all areas of business, entertainment, sports and music. Held at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, CA, attendees got to listen in as panelists spoke of their experiences, successes and mis-fires using Twitter specifically and social media in general. Below is the video of our session from Day 2 on Twitter and Small Business
Special thanks to Becky McCray (@beckymccray) from Alva, OK for putting this panel together for Mr. Pulver.

Here they are...we have pictures of the United Linen employees and the costumes they wore so you can vote and help raise money for the Bartlesville Regional United Way.
Watch the video below to see how you can participate. Donating money is extremely easy. Just click on the ChipIn Widget located in the right-hand sidebar of this blog, and choose how you would like to donate, (either through your Paypal account or with a credit card)
When you donate, leave a comment in the comments section of the Chipin widget (you'll see it after you make a donation) and tell us which costume you think is the best. The contest is good through 11/6/09
Our employees will be voting also by leaving donations in a box associated with the picture of the costume.
At the end of the week, we'll tally the scores and let you know who our winner is.
Thanks for playing along with us and helping United Linen & Uniform Services raise money for the Bartlesville Regional United Way.
