Flambeau Fieri, Haute Cuisine from a Can and the Real Value of Your Loyal Customer

Although this is old news now, I am still reeling (as I am sure Guy Fieri is) from the bombshell bad review his new New York restaurant felt from critic Pete Wells.  Was that intense or what?!  How would you respond if that were your restaurant?

Speaking of food with a bad rap, columnist Janet Forgrieve shows us how some folks are stepping up to the challenge and creating classics from cans.  (As a side note, I had no idea Napoleon was instrumental in the creation of canning foods...very interesting).

 

And finally, we learn the value of a loyal customer.  Yes, we've always known they were more valuable than our average customer, but now we are givin a formula for calculating that value.  Find out how in this article by Rob Markey and Fred Reichheld.

A conversation with Adam Gilbert, owner of Frank & Lola's

More than several months ago I had the honor of interviewing local restuarateur, Adam Gilbert, owner of Bartlesville's Frank & Lola's Restaurant (he runs the restaurant along with his wife, Katy).  Adam was kind enough to let us come in and visit with him about how he got started, why he does what he does and how he goes about creating the right experience for his customers. 

 

I try to keep the videos we post here short and sweet, under a minute or two, but this time, we just let it roll and when it was over, it was over.  Kind of a more laid back approach in keeping with the whole Frank & Lola's theme.

Okla woman sues Taco Bell, reading the table and too many adjectives

It's been awhile since I've posted stories we run across in the news.  Please forgive.

So, here we go...here are the stories we are following on Thursday, Feb 23, 2012.

Food Safety News reports an Oklahoma woman is sueing Taco Bell for salmonella poisoning.  The woman is from Cleveland County, OK and is among more than several who have contracted salmonella in 10 states.  More of this unpleasant story here.

On a lighter, more educational note, The Wall Street Journal has a great article on how restaurants are teaching their waiters and waitresses how to "read the table"  Are the people in a hurry, chatty, when do you bring the check?  All these questions and more are being examined by restaurateurs and the answers taught to their wait staff.  Read Sarah Nassauer's article here and/or watch the her in the video below.

 

 

Last in our list, New York Post's Carla Spartos writes about how some of the avid foody friends of food authors Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page are getting tired of the descriptors used in menus these days.  And don't get them started on the word "artisinal".  I can see their point.

When people think of United Linen & Uniform services, what products are they thinking of...probably linen & uniforms, right?

 

In addition to linen & uniforms, we also carry paper products for your facility's bathrooms.  Although we've provided paper products for our customers for some time now, we haven't made a big deal about it.  So we decided to really "bang the drum" and turn the spotlight on (OK, enough cliches) the paper products. 

Andy why not.  There are plenty of our customers out there who want good products, a competitive price and dependable service.  We think United Linen meets all those qualifications.

So, in future blog posts, we'll be showing you some of the different paper products we carry, product specs and how our system works.

Napkin Fold #1 - The Crown

And finally, our most viewed napkin fold from our United Linen YouTube channel, the Crown fold.  I'm not quite sure what makes this design the most popular...maybe it's the points that come down and give the overall design more of a complex look.  What do you think? 

We do know the Crown fold is easy to set up and sets the stage for a dramatic presentation for your table.
